Stoneware from India / Contemporary Ceramic / 2024

Approximate dimensions: 100mm (height) x 90mm (width)

Using stoneware clay from India, this tea brewing vessel will bring elegance to your homes without the need for a handle, long spout or strainer. Unlike classic teapots, it frames your tea and botanicals beautifully, cleans up and empties with such ease.

It is wheel-thrown by hand using no moulds and coated on the interior with a pure, smooth white opaque semi-glaze so that no traces are left behind after each serving. On the exterior, it is coated with a gentle matte glaze.

In India, white is often accepted as a colour of serenity, peace, purity, cleanliness and knowledge. Our artist expresses these terms through conceptual analyses, experiments with procedure, innovation with material, and cultural engagement.

It is designed as a single serving infusion: 220mL of water (one standard cup) for 2.5g of loose leaf tea (teaspoon) which means you will have a perfect tasting cup every time. When the tea has infused for the desired time, decant the whole infusion into a cup, wine or whiskey glass in an elevated manner.

Once the tea is poured, the leaves are safe and dry in the vessel, ready to be re-infused. You could also put cold water on them, leave it in the fridge overnight and pour yourself a cold brewed tea in the morning.

Each vessel is fired at 1223 degrees Celsius / 2233 degrees Fahrenheit in an electric kiln. They tend to allow a wide colour range, are simple to load and fire, and much more efficient than ceramic kilns of any other type.

We recommend that you wash this tea brewing vessel by hand. Our pieces differ from the mass produced ceramics in composition. Regular dishwashers may shorten their life span.

NOTE: Each purchase of Pur will include 5 tea samples.
